This makes his prowess as an artist even more of an achievement. Without the benefit of binocular stereo-vision, perspective become a very challenging issue. He obviated this potential handicap by working with techniques that didn't rely on perspective ~ particularly freeform contour lines. For this reason, he tended to avoid painting portraits, and so, on the rare occasions that he did accept portrait commissions, the results, lacking perspective, were not particularly flattering for the subject.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I think his &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;magnus opus&lt;/span&gt; is &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Dance of Life&lt;/span&gt; (see detail, above) &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span class="story_comment"&gt;which displays his "contour lines" technique. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p align="center"&gt;&lt;a target="_blank" href="http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/index.php/opinion/breaking-views/136-breaking-views/18777-ibrahim-hussein-1936-2009-a-tribute-victor-chin"&gt;&lt;img src="http://thestar.com.my/archives/2006/9/3/lifearts/sm_16ibrahim.jpg" border="0" width="375" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;Ib is never without his trademark "&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;cheeky smile.&lt;/span&gt;"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class="story_comment"&gt;Ib had an irreverent and cheeky sense of humour. For the catalogue of an exhibition at the US Embassy curated by Yeoh Jin Leng, of works by leading Malaysian artists who had studied in the US, he had submitted just two words: "Big Deal!" for his entry in the catalogue. Not wanting to embarrass the American hosts, his entry was reduced to: "Big!" He was greatly amused by this censorship.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of his paintings using the "contour lines" technique depicts a male and a female form entwined in orgasmic ecstasy. When I asked Ib why he had called the painting "Arrival," he asked me for another word that means "arrival." Everything else is a want, all unwarranted by your body's needs but insisted upon by consumerism.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It then comes as no surprise that post-modern man suffers a host of diseases unknown to our forefathers ~ we have been feeding our bodies with preservatives, food enhancers, colouring, conditioners and other gunk and junk (all processed meat, including sausages, contain sodium nitrate, for example).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One in four people will contract some form of cancer within their lifetime. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth largest killer among cancers yet no progress had been made towards finding a cure since the 1930s. It would not take too much funding to get this cancer licked, not too much compared to the huge amounts we spend on things we want, rather than need.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Please do a big favour to yourself and to the rest of humanity: spend a few minutes listing down the things you purchase as a result of thinking it is something you want, rather than fulfilling an actual physiological, nutritional or emotional need. Then promise yourself never to purchase them again. It may be the most profound new year's resolution you'll ever make.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;REMEMBER&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Fulfill your needs, not your wants. I learnt from the people at the Management Office that Blocks A, B &amp;amp; C are low-cost flats whilst Blocks D, E, F and H are medium cost apartments. (There is no Block G). Altogether there are 3,608 units on 27.55 acres of land.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A trip up the lifts showed how dirty Block F is. Graffiti everywhere and the strong stench of urine. Cat urine or human urine, I did not bother to investigate. I dare not touch anything. Ceiling fans compared with air conditioning can eliminate a tax of 5% in Malaysia! The cost of a 4-dish meal for two, excluding beverages, at the Good World Chinese restaurant in Dublin, would cost about €75 (US$112) - in Malaysia, the cost for an equivalent meal including steamed fresh fish, would cost €12 (US$19).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Asia&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Tokyo&lt;/span&gt; is the costliest Asian city, in &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;2nd&lt;/span&gt; place (score 127), two places up since last year. &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Seoul &lt;/span&gt;follows in &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;5th&lt;/span&gt; place (score 117.7) and &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Hong Kong&lt;/span&gt; closely after in &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;6th&lt;/span&gt; with a score of 117.6. &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Singapore &lt;/span&gt;ranks &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;13th&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;and holds a score of 109.1. &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Karachi &lt;/span&gt;continues to be the least costly city in this region, in &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;141st&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;place with a score of 54.7.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Whilst the five top-scoring cities in Asia remain relatively stable in the ranking there have been significant changes further down the list. In India, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Mumbai &lt;/span&gt;moves up four places to reach &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;48 &lt;/span&gt;(score 90.3), whereas &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;New Delhi&lt;/span&gt; climbs 13 places to &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;55 &lt;/span&gt;(score 87.5) due to the strengthening of the India rupee against the US dollar. Although India has experienced relatively high inflation, this has increased at similar pace to New York and has therefore had a reduced impact on its cities’ rise in the rankings. &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Manila &lt;/span&gt;rises a total of 27 places, ranking &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;110th&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;with a score of 73.4, mainly as a result of price increases for international-standard accommodation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In contrast, certain cities in this region have experienced significant falls in the ranking. Some examples are &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Jakarta &lt;/span&gt;falling from 55th to &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;82nd &lt;/span&gt;place (score 80.5) and &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Bangkok &lt;/span&gt;dropping from 95th to &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;105th &lt;/span&gt;place with a score of 75.1. In Vietnam, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Hanoi &lt;/span&gt;drops 35 places to rank &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;91 &lt;/span&gt;(score 79) and &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;Ho Chi Minh City&lt;/span&gt; drops 40 places to rank &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;100th &lt;/span&gt;(score 76.3), mainly because the Vietnamese dong has remained stable against the US dollar and so has pushed these cities down on the list. We made an appointment to meet today, Sunday, 6 July 2008 on the Second Floor of Metrojaya at Bukit Bintang Plaza at 2.30 pm. When I arrived at the appointed place, I telephoned him to inform that I had arrived. He asked me to proceed to the Third Floor of Metrojaya, Bukit Bintang Plaza. He met me on the Third Floor and invited me to join him for a drink at Johnny's Restaurant at Level B1 of Bukit Bintang Plaza while we wait for his wife, MARY, to join us.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;DAVID LIEW is tall, about &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;175 cm&lt;/span&gt; and big sized, about &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;90 kg&lt;/span&gt;. He was wearing beige trousers and a white shirt. He has a dark complexion (for a &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Chinese&lt;/span&gt;) and looks more &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Eurasian &lt;/span&gt;(serani). His accent sounds more like a bloody &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;mamak &lt;/span&gt;than Chinese. His general looks, physique and complexion reminds me of Pua Choo Kang.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;While on the way down in the lift, his wife MARY NG called my handphone and asked if DAVID was with me, at which point I passed my handphone to him to speak to MARY NG. However, the line was cut off as there was low signal in the lift. Upon reaching Johnny's Restaurant, DAVID LIEW ordered a fresh orange without ice for himself and a fresh orange with ice for me while we waited for his wife, MARY NG. MARY NG called my handphone again and again I passed my handphone to DAVID. He tried to explain to her our location but because we were in Level B1 (Basement 1), the signal was low. DAVID asked me to wait while he went up to GROUND level to get a better signal. I was not suspicious as he had left two seal brown envelopes at the table.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;However, at 3.30 pm, after waiting for an hour for DAVID to return, I because suspicious ad opened the two brown envelopes that were sealed with staples. One contained blank pieces of paper and the other old folded newspaper. At this point I realized DAVID LIEW was a con-man who had used the ruse to steal my NOKIA 3110 Classic handphone which is valued at RM699. My handphone is &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;019-282 9526&lt;/span&gt;. Apparently, someone (I refrain from using the word "friend") who attended one of their previous seminars thought I was a &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;petani&lt;/span&gt; and "kindly" gave them my handphone number.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Of course, I wasn't interested in wasting my time but I told her "Yes, I was coming," just to screw her up. Within 30 minutes a guy (probably her bloody upline) called up on a Private Number asking me to confirm my attendance. I just hate people calling from Private Numbers so I just kept quiet until he realised he was talking to himself and hung up. Then he and Anisa tried calling me umpteen times but I didn't pick up, I just let the phone ring.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the meantime, Anisa sent an sms with their address and my "Pass Number." I suppose this was to ensure that the "friend" who referred me automatically becomes my "upline."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Today, another woman called Ida called up from &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;019-271 2790&lt;/span&gt; asking me to confirm attendance for their &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;taklimat &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt;bela ikan keli&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;.&lt;/span&gt; I replied, "&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Oh, saya tak jadi lah.&lt;/span&gt;"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She asked: "&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Kenapa?&lt;/span&gt;"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I replied: "&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Saya tersalah dengar.
