Hello Cristy

Lovely to hear from you! So lovely. I'm sorry I was so caught up with
the rat race that I didn't respond to you before I left for my Date
With Destiny in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast of Queensland,
Australia, near Brisbane. I had no intention of being rude but just so
many loose ends to tie up before I took my spritual retreat, as it
were. I have better clarity on my purpose in life now and I am more
goal oriented than in the previous habit of happily of making excuses.

~ When you don't have a destination. then any road will get you there. ~

I have understood what drew me to you when we met in Singapore. I just
felt the love you exude from every pore of your skin as pheremones,
from your aura as a biomagnetic field, in the kind words you say
(BioAcoustics see http://www.newpara.com/Sharry_Edwards.htm) the deeds
that touch my heart. Through your eyes into the window of your soul.
This is on top of being a top 1% world class beauty

I suppose it took for me to swim in the Pacific Ocean to understand
that at the cognitive level, besides AJR, I guess. I have always
relied on my RED (Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats terminology) or
in man-in-the-street talk, gut feeling. But some things need to be
understood at the cognitive level too.

If all this sounds too esoteric or mystical, please bear with me as I
have an idea to write a short story in a stream of consciousness genre
to illustrate what I mean. The female protagonist will be a composite
personality of you and of another young lady with high Spiritual
Quotient that I met at Date With Destiny. A vegan, who is a
personaification of love and affection and kindness. The story will be
set in a utopia where people talk to animals (as I do), have telepathy
(as I do), don't smoke (as I don't), don't burn fossil fuels, don't
have any addictions, enjoy life on a planet full of oxygen and love
and am at one with oneself, other creature and the universe. Where we
talk to all of God's creations. Where we meet UFOs and beings from
outer space on a daily basis and live with them in harmony. where we
speak in a universal mindspeak of love. In a fusion world that arose
from multi-ism to pluralism to poly-ism to fusion. Where peace is the
religion, where people live an eternity as their souls are immortal,
they time travel and astrotravel and the mind/body/universe merge in a
nebulous quantum fluctuation within the fabric of the space time
continuum.

A world of no wars as as Gandhi said:
An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind.

When we have an eternity to live, we live life differently, an
original garden of eden like setting of sustainable organic farming.
Our garden is our farm, we talk to animals, ride horses and chariots.
Zoom around in sedgeways http://www.segway.com/

For now, I must be the change I want to see in the world. I'd like to
teach the world to think and love and contribute as we are connected
in a Gaia-like organic living planet James Lovelock-ian world. (No
wonder his name is LOVE-LOCK).

Anyway, this protagonist will be named Diana Hemmingway or Hemmings, I
haven't quite decided.

I hesitated to write to you earlier describing what I felt about you,
as it was quite profound. You're not just physically attractive, but a
human and humane being if a high spritual quotient. Wordworthian "She
was a Phantom of Delight-ish) Without understanding all this, six
months ago all I felt and could say to you was I like you and have
affection for you.

I'd like to honour you by writing this vision of utopia and if it is
in congruency with yours, please give me your permission to model the
personality of Diana Hemmings on my perception of you. Since our
meetings were brief, I have to use a composite personality deriving
other psychographic profiling data from this other spiritual being I
met at date With Destiny. It's all very avataristic, I know but kinda
playful and fun, what?

hhhhmmmmm

something to think about...

do write when you can spare a minute or two from your beloved family
and community

much love

THE PENNY DROPS - UNWRITHINKLE STUFF!

I made a conceptual error in my previous piece, below. I used the term
"peace Revolution" which is incorrect. Let me explain why.

The 60s saw a Peace movement, which was actually more of an ANTI-war
movement. It failed because of two reasons:

1) its slogan was

MAKE LOVE, NOT WAR

conceptually this is inaccurate because you cannot "MAKE" love, as in
manufacture it. LOVE comes from God, you merely "SHARE" God's Infinite
Love with those you interact with.

2) The anti-war movement was a "REVOLUTION," an anti-thesis to WAR.
Well, that's a not-starter as PEACE is a quiet, humbling, inner
tranquility. Those who feel peaceful, who have inner peace have a
sense of like their little smoking white, translucent (pearl?) sphere
of a soul is swimming in the green Sea of Tranquility. At least that's
the visualization I see. You may have a different visual perception.
Depends in the way your retina is configured, I suppose. Or is it the
capillaries of your inner eyelids? Or may be it has something to do
with the pineal gland? Somethings I still don't WRITHINKLE even at the
cognitive level and can't still intuit this mind phenomenon. But I
disgress.

Back to business at hand, If you are in an ANTI-something state of
mind phenomenon, you canNOT be an peace. You probably have some anger
or fervour or fanaticism (as in Hamzah Fansuri of Acheh and all that ~
read Syed Naguib Al-Attas's PhD thesis at McGill ~ THE FANATICISM OF
HAMZAH FANSURI) or whatever.

So, I hallucinate that Civilization is at the brink of a Golden
Opportunity. We need to possess COURAGE (as in Hemingway's Grace Under
Pressure in ^Death in the Afternoon^) grasp the bull (I'm liking this
matador metaphor) by the horns, seize the day (carpe diem) and embrace
this PEACE EVOLUTION.

Why COURAGE? Because being at PEACE makes us VULNERABLE. When our
*enemies* (I know it presumes a paranoid national psyche as in the
Yehudi Chosen Few whose raison detre appears to be PERSECUTION).

We need to have a critical mass of people in the world who are at
PEACE inside themselves. People who have LOVE in their hearts. With
every breath we take, every beat of the heart, every drop of blood
pumped into the aorta, every oxy-haemoglobin molecule coursing through
our tiniest capillaries, for the PEACE EVOLUTION to precipitate a new
era of civilization. I have a utopian vision of this which I shall
share later.... but the

GOOD NEWS
is that we already have that critical mass of PEOPLE at peace with
themselves in their hearts. The only thing is, they may not realise
it. They may individually, or in small groups, but not as a collective
conscience.

These budding PEACEmakers are called...

now get this:

MUSLIMS!

Every time a Muslim whispers BISMILLAH... in his or her heart, a soul
is at peace with itself, in relation to the body which is its vehicle.
Well, for some, you have to baca the whole Al-Fatihah to get into this
mind state. For others. the Surat Yasin. Others still, feel they have
to memorise the whole of the Quran.

The point is, Islam is about PEACE - that's what SALAM is, btw, in
case you haven't heard.

PEACE is that state of mind in which FEAR of any kind is unknown. But
JOY is a positive thing ~ in JOY, something goes out of oneself into
the UNIVERSE, a warm, possessive affluence of LOVE. There may be PEACE
without JOY, or JOY without PEACE, but the two combined, make
HAPPINESS.

Those who need a deeper cognitive understanding of this, before they
can take that intellectual LEAP OF FAITH, can read COGNITIVE THERAPY
by David Burns.

Once we declare UNILATERAL DISARMAMENT, that is, more accurately,
SURRENDER TO PEACE (old hat in new clothes, to mix metaphors), and
LOVE our enemies (as in the way Nabi Isa had shown), the WORLD will
change...

Okay, you now probably ready to read my VISION of UTOPIA.

see next post.

PS the Australians would probably say its BLOODY BAGUS!

NB Also, Malaysia is also a non-starter. I tell you why:
First mal- as a prefix already NEGATES whatever follows. PANASIA would
probably be a better bet. Malaria, Malaise are the common negative
associationships associated with Malaysia.

Let's check out PANASIA

PANASIA
ANASIAP
NASIAPA
ASIAPAN
SIAPANA
IAPANAS
APANASI

Not that great either as I see a lack of sense of self or identity, if
you like as in ANA SIAPA? I also see PANAS which connotes to war and
other *HEATY* things.

SIAP is good as it connotes a readiness.

APA NASI boggles the mind though! maybe it denotes a poverty, a famine
a bankrupt integrity. Like, whatever...

TUN MAHATHIR

DOES anybody know who is responsible for the MAHATHIR graffiti that we
see on the streets?

In case, you haven't seen it yet, its a portrait rectangle within
which is an image of Tun Mahathir in graphic black lines. I feel some
negative emotions when I seen this graffiti (aging, sickly, fading).
Does it have the same effect on others? Most possibly not, what do you
guys and gals feel when you see it.

There is usually one at the grey traffic control box at every traffic
light in KL/PJ. Keep on eye out for it as you drive around town
today...

RADIO 4 this morning

This is a good joke.

Just called RADIO 4 at 03-9543 3333, just before the the 8 o'clock
news this morning and gave my views about DIVORCE and REMARRIAGE but
Simon and Caroline said they couldn't air it as its about RELIGION!

Just fancy that, they try to discuss Marriage and Divorce divorced
from the context of RELIGION.

I hope they have a recording of our exchange. They would be lovely
EVIDENCE. Anyway, here is the gist of the conversation:

I started by saying that I support re-marriage as i have a
HUSBAND-IN-LAW, my ex-wife's present husband. We are like an large
extended family called his present (my ex) looks after his SIX
daughters from his previous 2 marriages. Actualy, his second marriage
bore no children.

One of them asked (Caroline, I think) how I thought values have
changed. I started by explaining much I admired John Paul II, as an
exemplary personification of someone who deserves to be honoured. Then
I constrasted this to the Vatican of old, at the time of the Borgias,
where the Pope encouraged INCEST, having his SON take the VIRGINITY of
his DAUGHTER. This is was way for the Vatican State to retain power as
the Pope married off his daughter in a marriage of convenience as a
way of consolidating power.

The Vatican has come a long way from when they burnt Joan of Arc at
the stake, persecuted Copernicus and Tycho Brahe for saying things
like the Earth is round, not flat; and that the Earth moved round the
Sun, not the sun around the Earth.

That's when they ask me to stop because they cannot talk about RELIGION on air.

They put Linda on, instead. They just don't have the courage to speak
with conviction.
This ideology of Hypocrisy we live in I, suppose. Or is it? Do we just
leave it at that and accept the status quo or do we STEP UP!?

hmmmmm
something to think about

HUMOUR/TRUE STORY: WHY YOU NEED RSMD RIDER^

Lumberjack's revenge

An angry Austrian lumberjack used his chainsaw to reduce his boss's
furniture to matchsticks. After the fight at work, the 37-year-old
drove to his boss's flat in the town of St. Johann, reports Tiroler
Krone.

After cutting a rectangle into the door with his chainsaw to get in,
he then destroyed a table, armchair, corner seat, the complete kitchen
furniture and the wardrobe.

Neighbours who heard the noise of the chainsaw called the police. When
they arrived, they found the man sitting peacefully amongst the
remains of his boss's furniture. Police say the man caused an
estimated £3,500 of damage.

Note:
RSMD ~ Riot, Strike and Malicious Damage rider is available for
houseowner and householder (household contents) insurance policies.

HUMOUR/TRUE STORY: WHY YOU NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE

Dream holiday turns to nightmare

A German professor who went on a dream holiday to Costa Rica woke up
in an airport departure lounge to find his leg had been amputated.

The professor said he had gone to see a doctor at a hospital in San
Jose because his left foot was swollen. He said: "An aspirin usually
did the trick. I have had the problem before - it was nothing serious
- just something caused by my diabetes.

"When I got to the hospital they put me on a bed and I heard the word
amputate. I tried to protest, but before I knew it they had given me
drugs to black me out, and when I woke up I was at the departure
lounge.

"My suitcases were by my side - and then I realised my leg was
missing. I couldn't move, and when I checked my wallet I found that
£200 had been taken out and replaced with a receipt for the
amputation.

"It was like a bad dream and I could not believe what had happened."

Professor Ronald Jurisch, 50, from Dessau in Sachsen-Anhalt, said the
holiday was booked for him by friends for his birthday as the trip of
a lifetime.

After the operation, Prof Jurisch collapsed and was taken to a private
clinic where he was diagnosed with blood poisoning. He said it was
four weeks until a special medically equipped plane took him back to
Germany where he underwent 23 more operations to try and repair the
damage from the amputation.

He is now seeking to take legal action against the hospital in San Jose.

Something not dissimilar from the missing leg story (but less dramatic) happened to my mother while on a Soviet cruise ship. She collapsed on a pier in Turkey from heatstroke and awoke once to hear the ship's doctor say (in Russian) "I can't operate here, my instruments are rusty." When they arrived at port she was rushed to hospital to have her appendix removed - she remembers waking to see her surgeon examining it puzzled "this is a perfectly healthy appendix..."

Rooms for Rent

in Kota Warisan, 43900 SEPANG
(next to Salak Tinggi ERL Station)

I have two rooms in an apartment for rent in Kota Warisan, Sepang, right next to the Salak Tinggi ERL Station (the KLIA Transit stops there). The monthly rental is RM250.00 (for single occupancy) or RM150 per pax (for twin sharing). The postal address is:

Unit B-3-6, 3rd Floor (corner unit)
Block B, Villa Impian Apartment
Persiaran Warisan
Kota Warisan
43900 SEPANG

The Kota Warisan township is 7 minutes' drive from Putrajaya/Cyberjaya and 2 minutes' drive from KLIA or Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi via the new toll-free 6-lane highway. Suitable for aircrew, MASkargo, Pos Malaysia, Pan Pacific Hotel, ERL & MAB staff as well as people working in Putrajaya or Cyberjaya. The ERL fare to Putrajaya/Cyberjaya ERL Station is only RM3.00 one-way and to KLIA is only RM3.20. People who work at the airport also get a Staff Discount.

As a landlord, I prefer a single lady tenant or a young couple without children. I'm not that keen on renting to students, families or foreign workers. Single guys who don't smoke are okay, too.

The apartment is bright and breezy and really quite adorable. There is 24-hour security guards. The common areas are well-maintained and beautifully landscaped. The Villa Impian apartment complex is on a low hill and it's very airy and breezy. There are lots of shoplots nearby with mini-markets, sundry and hardware stores and the ubiquitous 24-hour kedai mamak. There's also a driving range nearby and the Nilai golf course is just a few minutes' drive away.

If you know of anyone who is my target market, do pass the info along and I can arrange a viewing.

Pasta Preparation Tips

Think you're sous-chef material? Test your knowledge of the finer points of pasta preparation with these expert tips... each one provided by sous-chefs at signature restaurant locations.

1. Start with clean, fresh, cool water. Why? Pasta is absorptive! If your water tastes at all "off," or contains any impurities, you can be sure they're going to taint the finished flavour of your pasta. Filter your home water if possible, and resist the temptation to pre-heat your water using the hot water tap. Water from hot water heaters can taste flat or oxidized, either of which will adversely affect the taste of home cooked pasta.

2. Use as much water as possible. We recommend four quarts as a bare minimum per 12 oz. package of pasta, but 6-8 quarts is ideal. More water will keep strands of pasta from sticking together and reduce the tendency of your pot to boil over. There's science at work here. Trust us.

3. Don't limit yourself to the traditional pasta pot as a cooking vessel. Most customers are surprised to find out that the majority of restaurants that serve pasta use a high-temperature wok to cook their pasta. They do it because it boils their water in half the time. Pots, woks, different stove-types... they all affect boiling time. A little research in this department, as well as some trial and error, should snip valuable minutes off your pasta preparation time.

4. Use salt, but not oil. This was the consensus "personal preference" of the majority of cooks we interviewed. Most recommend about a tablespoon of salt added to boiling water just before laying in the pasta. Adding olive oil, a traditional practice thought to keep the pasta from sticking, turns out not to be necessary.

5. Stir your pasta frequently after it has been added to water and before it resumes a healthy boil. This is the only precaution you need to take to ensure that the pasta does not stick either to the pot or to itself.

6. Don't overcook the pasta (part 1). Were these guidelines listed in order of importance, this one would be at the top of the page. Use the recommended cooking time specified on the package as a general guideline only! Always test for doneness by tasting one or two strands at a time. If the pasta is at all tough, stiff, firm, offering any true resistance -- it needs more time. If it seems relatively soft, but sticks slightly to the teeth, you're almost there. Give it another 30 seconds. Then finito!

7. Don't overcook the pasta (part 2). Now here's a real shocker. Are you sitting down? Pasta continues to cook even after it's been removed from heat and been strained! If it's hot, even warm, and especially if it's swimming in sauce, it's still cooking! To account for this horrifying truth of modern physics, the best chefs typically either a) undercook their pasta slightly if it is to be immediately plated with sauce, or b) rinse their pasta as described in #8, just below. The intentional undercooking of pasta is especially important if you plan to leave just-cooked pasta in a large serving dish as for a dinner party. You'll thank us later.

8. Don't be afraid to rinse, or "shock" pasta. This one may get us in trouble with pasta traditionalists, who consider the rinsing of pasta a grave culinary violation. We're sorry to burst their bubble, but most of America's restaurant kitchens employ such a practice. And it's not just out of necessity. Rinsing pasta briefly in cold or room temperature water allows a chef to halt the cooking process at precisely the right moment. You'll still want to slightly undercook rinsed pasta if you're going to be re-heating it with other ingredients in a skillet or wok (see below) just before serving time. But you'll have some breathing room should your recipe divert your attention elsewhere, and you'll be assured of the perfect doneness when finally ready to plate your completed dish.

9. Use a pre-heated cooking skillet to better "wed" pasta to sauce before serving time. Have your sauce heated and waiting, then toss with your slightly undercooked and drained pasta for about a minute or so over high heat to finish the dish.

10. Never be afraid to experiment. Another contender for the most important rule of all.

Cycling from Singapore to Phuket for Charity ~ Can You Help Out?

Date: Thu, 10 Mar 2005 19:24:36 +0800
From: "Anthony & Thea Skillicorn" skilli64@singnet.com.sg
Subject: Message for UWC noticeboard.

Five UWCSEA Teachers will cycle 1500 kilometers from Singapore
to Phuket to raise funds for a Tsunami Education Trust.

Over the Easter break, five UWCSEA teachers and two parents are
cycling from Singapore to Phuket, a distance of 1500 km in nine
days. The aim of this physically and mentally challenging cycle
ride is to promote the establishment of, and to raise funds for, a
Tsunami Education Assistance Fund which is being set up at
UWCSEA to offer financial assistance to students orphaned by the
recent tsunami who need financial support to complete their
education. The Fund will officially be launched on Friday 18th
March when the cyclists set off from UWCSEA.

You can get details on this and other UWCSEA tsunami initatives
- the college has already raised over S$120,000 for immediate
and medium term support - and the cycle ride aims to raise at
least S$150,000 for support over the next ten years.

For details on these initiatives, the dates and itinerary of the
riders, please visit the UWCSEA website at:

HUMOUR: The English Language

Have you ever wondered why foreigners have trouble with the English
Language? Let's face it, English is one crazy language. There is no
egg in the eggplant, no ham in the hamburger. And neither pine nor
apple in the pineapple. English muffins were not invented in England.
French fries were not invented in France. We sometimes take English
for granted, but if we examine its paradoxes we find that quicksand
takes you down slowly (not quickly), and boxing rings are square. And
a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. If writers write,
how come fingers don't fing? If the plural of tooth is teeth,
shouldn't the plural of phone booth be phone beeth? If the teacher
taught, why didn't the preacher praught? If a vegetarian eats
vegetables, what the do humanitarians eat? Why do people recite at a
play, yet play at a recital? Or park on driveways and drive on
parkways? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language where
a house can burn up as it burns down, and in which you fill in a form
by filling it out. And a bell is only heard once it goes! English was
invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of
the human race (which, of course, isn't a race at all). That is why
when the stars are out they are visible, but when the lights are out
they are invisible, and why it is that when I wind up my watch it
starts, but when I wind up this observation, it ends.

True Story

There is a true story of a young lady from New York who was deeply in love with her fiance. Unfortunately, he died in 1999. For the next two years, she was hesitant to be committed to another relationship, for fear of facing a similar loss. Though she met a number of gentlemen that she liked, she always held back.

She happened to work in the World Trade Centre and one of the gentlemen that she liked owned a firm that occupied the 101st floor of the WTC. He had proposed to her just before she left for a seminar in Hawaii. She declined, mindful of the tragic loss she had experienced earlier.

At the seminar, she reflected on her decision and changed her mind. She rang him but because of the time difference with New York, he was asleep and so she left him a voicemail message saying that she loved him and that she would accept his marriage proposal.

At 8.58 am on September 11, 2001, the gentleman rang her back. He told her that he had received her message and that he loved her dearly. He also said that he was in the office and that the building was on fire. There was no way he would survive, or for them to see each other again. But he felt good that he had helped her learn a valuable lesson ~ that one should live life to the fullest, to not hold back and to take every opportunity to live the moment.

Another 90-minute video of an interesting story concerning a Norwegian lady and her father will be shown at Ivory 11, Level 4, Holiday Villa, Subang at 1.30 pm on Saturday, March 26. You are welcome to attend the session and participate in the discussion following it.

Career Opportunity Presentation
Financial Planning ~ Your Passport to Financial Freedom!

The function of an insurance agent is to act on behalf of an insurance company to acquire insurance business from the customers or prospective customers of the insurance company (insurer). Unlike the insurance broker who represents the buyer of insurance, insurance agents represent the insurance company, essentially to sell insurance policies.

Insurance agents can act on behalf of not more than two general insurance companies and one life insurance company at a time. To be a general insurance agent, one must sit for and pass the Pre-Contract Examination for Insurance Agents (PCEIA) , Part A & Part B, and to be a life insurance agent, one must pass Part A & Part C of the PCEIA. The examination is conducted by The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII). The PCEIA assures that any person who becomes an insurance agent has the necessary basic knowledge to promote and sell insurance to the general public on behalf of the insurance company which they represent.

After passing these examinations, the general agent will have to register himself/herself with the Persatuan Insuran Am Malaysia (PIAM), and the life agent with Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) before he can transact any insurance business. Upon registration by PIAM, general insurance agents are required to comply with a set of rules known as the General Insurance Agents Registration Regulations (GIARR) and a code of ethics for general insurance agents.

An insurance agency can be operated either on a part-time, spare-time, free-time basis or full-time. In today's increasingly sophisticated environment, more and more insurance agents have become professional consultants and full-service financial planners who operate their agency business on a full-time basis. This enables them to concentrate on the business and to provide the best possible service to their clients.

Traditionally, insurance agents are not salaried but are paid by the insurance companies they work for by way of commissions on sales. However, a number of banking groups now own insurance companies which use salaried staff to sell their insurance products.

Life insurance agents get the opportunity to earn passive income as they earn commissions and various bonuses for a number of years after a life insurance policy is sold. If you'd like to find out what opportunities a career in Life Insurance can offer you, do attend the next Life Insurance...

Red Vegetable Soup

a recipe by Azlan Adnan

INGREDIENTS (in order of appearance)
Half a small pumpkin, peeled then cut into chunks
1 large red onion (about 400 g), diced
2 large red capsicums, roasted, then peeled and sliced thickly
3 large carrots, cut into small pieces
4 large tomatoes, peeled, deseeded, then diced
5 cloves of garlic
125 g of salted butter (half a block)
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp sugar
1 heaped tbsp corn flour
single cream (about 400 to 600 g)
1 tbsp of chilli powder
ground black pepper to taste
Tabasco sauce
1 litre vegetable stock from boiling the carrots and pumpkin (see In the Meantime, below).

METHOD (this is what you do)
Sweat the onions with the garlic in the butter over low fire for about 5 minutes.
Do not brown the onions.
If you brown the onions, start all over.

Add the diced tomatoes and salt and keep sweating for another 15 minutes.
Add the Tabasco and black pepper.
Notice how the texture changes as a result of the low heat and salt.
If there has been no dramatic change in the texture, keep sweating the mixture until it happens.
I repeat, do not brown the onions.
If you brown the onions, start all over.

Sprinkle on the sugar.
Turn the heat up and caramelize (brown) the sugar. This takes about 2 minutes.
Do not burn the sugar.
If you smell something burning or see some black stuff stuck to the bottom of your pot, you've burnt the sugar. Start all over.

Once you have caramelized the sugar, turn the heat down.
Sprinkle on the chilli powder.
Sprinkle on the corn flour.
Continuously stir the gunk (yes, this is how it is supposed to look and feel like at this stage, don't panic) for 2 minutes non-stop over low heat.
Add about 1 litre of vegetable stock and pureed carrot and pumpkin.
Turn the heat up and bring to boil.
Add the roasted red capsicums.
Turn the heat down and gently simmer for 20 minutes.
Spoon the soup into individual bowls.
Add the single cream just before serving.
Do not add the single cream into the pot.
(Big mistake if you did, go start all over again).

IN THE MEANTIME (I told you, you should have read this first)
Boil the carrots and pumpkin until soft.
Reserve the stock.
Blend the carrots and pumpkin with some cold water until well-pureed.
Add back to the stock and stir well.

McDonald's to pay US$8.5 million in trans fat lawsuit

California man had sued over company's delays in limiting them

Feb 11 2005, SAN FRANCISCO, California (Reuters) -- McDonald's has agreed to pay US$8.5 million to settle a lawsuit over artery-clogging trans fats in its cooking oils, the company said Friday.

McDonald's said it will donate US$7 million to the American Heart Association and spend another US$1.5 million to inform the public of its trans fat plans.

The settlement is the result of litigation from a San Francisco-area activist who has been seeking to raise public awareness of the health dangers from the trans fatty acids (TFAs) in hydrogenated or partially
hydrogenated oils (PHOs).

Trans fats are used in thousands of processed food products, often giving the crunch to french fries, cookies and cereals.

They are created in processing vegetable oils and have been found to be as unhealthy as pure cholesterol. The latest official U.S. nutrition recommendations suggest limiting their intake.

"McDonald's has reached an agreement to further notify our customers about the status of our ongoing initiative to reduce TFAs in our cooking oil," the company said in a statement.

Stephen Joseph, a lawyer who founded the Web site BanTransFats, sued McDonald's over complaints the firm did not properly inform the public that it had encountered delays in plans to lessen the trans fats in its cooking oils.

Joseph said his site would receive US$7,500, as would another plaintiff in the case.

"McDonald's has been successful in reducing TFA levels in our Chicken McNuggets, Crispy Chicken Sandwich and McChicken Sandwich," the fast food firm said. "McDonald's continues to work hard on our initiative to reduce TFAs in our cooking oil."

British-born Joseph first gained publicity for his cause by suing Kraft Foods two years ago to highlight the trans fat content of much-beloved Oreo cookies. The company has since moved to remove trans fats from its snack foods.

"While there is a difference of opinion regarding whether McDonald's gave effective notice to its customers that the oil was not changed, McDonald's deserves recognition and credit for having achieved a reduction in the trans fat levels in its chicken products and for working diligently over the last two years to test additional cooking oils," Joseph said in a statement.

Dunkin' Donuts, a unit of Britain's Allied Domecq Plc, and other companies have in recent months introduced new products free of trans fats.

Hey, everybody

...dies one day.

just accept the inevitable.

your past deeds or sins decides whether you go to heaven or hell.
no need to ask the whole world to pray for you.
a bit too late to ask for the help of others, i say.
wake up and smell the coffee...

don't be a baby, die like a man!

Building a Pipeline to Wealth
By Robert Kiyosaki

Each of us resides in at least one of the four quadrants of the CASHFLOW Quadrant. Where we are is determined by where our main source of income comes from. Many of us rely on paychecks and are therefore employees, while others are self-employed. Employees and self-employed individuals reside on the left side of the CASHFLOW Quadrant. The right side of the CASHFLOW Quadrant is for individuals who receive their cash from businesses or investments they own.

My rich dad told me a simple story when I was 12 years old that has guided me to great wealth and financial freedom. It was Rich Dad's way of explaining the difference between the left side of the CASHFLOW Quadrant, the 'E' and 'S' quadrants, from the right side of the 'B' and 'I' quadrants. It goes: "Once upon a time there was this quaint little village. It was a great place to live except for one problem. The village had no water unless it rained. To solve this problem once and for all, the village elders decided to put out to bid the contract to have water delivered to the village on a daily basis. Two people volunteered to take on the task and the elders awarded the contract to both of them. They felt that a little competition would keep prices low and ensure a back-up supply of water.

Self Employed Thinking
The first of the two people who won the contract, Ed, immediately ran out, bought two galvanized steel buckets and began running back and forth along the trail to the lake which was a mile away. He immediately began making money as he labored morning to dusk hauling water from the lake with his two buckets. He would empty them into the large concrete holding tank the village had built. Each morning he had to get up before the rest of the village awoke to make sure there was enough water for the village when it wanted it. It was hard work, but he was very happy to be making money and for having one of the two exclusive contracts for this business.

Business Owner Thinking
The second winning contractor, Bill, disappeared for a while. He was not seen for months, which made Ed very happy since he had no competition. Ed was making all the money.

Instead of buying two buckets to compete with Ed, Bill had written a business plan, created a corporation, found four investors, employed a president to do the work and returned six months later with a construction crew. Within a year, his team had built a large volume stainless steel pipeline that connected the village to the lake. At the grand opening celebration, Bill announced that his water was cleaner than Ed's water. Bill knew that there had been complaints about dirt in Ed's water. Bill also announced that he could supply the village with water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Ed could only deliver water on the weekdays & he did not work on weekends. Then Bill announced that he would charge 75% less than Ed did for this higher quality and more reliable source of water. The village cheered and ran immediately for the faucet at the end of Bill's pipeline. In order to compete, Ed immediately lowered his rates by 75%, bought two more buckets, added covers to his buckets and began hauling four buckets each trip. In order to provide better service, he hired his two sons to give him a hand for the night shift and on weekends. When his boys went off to college, he said to them, "Hurry back because someday this business will belong to you." For some reason, after college, his two sons never returned. Eventually, Ed had employees and union problems. The union was demanding higher wages, better benefits and wanted its members to only haul one bucket at a time. Bill, on the other hand, realized that if this village needed water then other villages must need water too. He rewrote his business plan and went off to sell his high speed, high volume, low cost and clean water delivery system to villages throughout the world. He only makes a penny per bucket of water delivered, but he delivers billions of buckets of water, and all that money pours into his bank account. Bill had developed a pipeline to deliver money to himself as well as water to the villages. Bill lived happily ever after. Ed worked hard for the rest of his life and had financial problems forever after. The end." That story about Bill and Ed has guided me for years. It has assisted me in my life's decision-making process. I often ask myself, "Am I building a pipeline or hauling buckets?" "Am I working hard or am I working smart?"

And the answers to those questions have made me financially free. The CASHFLOW Quadrant is about the four different types of people who make up the world of business, who they are and what makes individuals in each quadrant unique. It will help you define where you are in the Quadrant today and help you chart a course for where you want to be in the future as you choose your own path to financial freedom. While financial freedom can be found in all four of the quadrants, the skills of a 'B' or 'I' will help you reach your financial goals more quickly. A successful 'E' should also become a successful 'I'.

Chaos at Ikea Superstore

Chaos - and a stabbing - as opening superstore swamped
By Jennifer Sym, PA
10 February 2005

A man was stabbed and would-be bargain-hunters suffered heat exhaustion as a crushing crowd of thousands forced a flagship Ikea superstore to close on opening night.

Cars were abandoned on the roadside and customers were crushed in the chaos which ensued after the furniture store in north London launched at midnight.

The new outlet in Edmonton, the biggest Ikea in England, was due to trade for a full 24 hours, but shut within 40 minutes after an "unforeseen volume of customers" descended in the early hours.

Up to 6,000 people flocked to the opening of the store, which was touting cut-price offers throughout the 24-hour opening, including a three-seater leather sofa for £45 until 3am and a double bed frame for £30 between 3am and 8am.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said today that nine ambulances, one rapid response car, four officers and an emergency control vehicle were sent to the scene, following reports of crushing outside the store.

He added: "Six adult patients were treated and taken to hospital, three each to North Middlesex and Whipps Cross hospitals. Of these, one man had been stabbed and another patient was experiencing chest pains. The four other people were understood to have sustained a range of minor injuries."

A spokeswoman for Scotland Yard confirmed a man in his 20s was stabbed in the area - not the store - at about 1.30am today. She added: "His condition is described as stable, and not thought to be life-threatening."

She said earlier many people had abandoned their vehicles in the middle of the A406 (north circular), making their way to the store on foot, causing severe traffic difficulties.

In a statement this morning, an Ikea spokeswoman said the company was "deeply shocked, upset and concerned" at what had happened.

She said the store opened for the one-off 24-hour spectacular at 00.01am and was forced to close at 00.42am, with "unprecedented" crowd numbers estimated at between 5,000 to 6,000.

She added: "In the planning process prior to the launch of the new store Ikea Edmonton had direct liaison with the police and Enfield Council. On the evening traffic management, crowd control and the emergency services were in place.

"However at 00.01am, the official time of opening, people outside of the controlled queue surged forward, causing a crush at the entrance to the store."

She said police had confirmed a number of injuries, with the stabbing occurring "off Ikea premises" in a separate incident.

She added: "Ikea are deeply shocked, upset and concerned at what occurred. Ikea take the safety and security of its customers and employees very seriously at all times.

"Having opened 12 stores prior to Edmonton in the UK, Ikea could never have predicted and are genuinely overwhelmed at the outcome of the evening and the consequences that the opening of a home furnishing retailer has had.

"Under the current circumstances, Ikea Edmonton will remain closed until further notice. All advertised opening offers have been withdrawn. Ikea would like to express their concern and regret at what has happened at the opening of our new store."

Assistant Divisional Officer William Bird, of the London Fire Service, said: "It was extraordinary and to a certain extent unexpected. I have certainly not attended anything like this before."

"There were crush injuries and people suffering from shock from the pushing and shoving," he said. Cars abandoned on main roads around the store had caused severe congestion, making it difficult for emergency crews to get through.

The Real Estate Mind Game

Decisions of the Head
By Cheryl Young

Real estate can be one of the most stable methods of investing today.  Unlike the “wows” of the stock market, real estate can be a consistent way for people to extend their wealth ratio.  However, many new investors make the mistake of investing with their heart instead of their head. An old cliché reminds us that “You make your money in real estate when you BUY, not when you SELL.” With that in mind, it is important that we make good BUYING decisions in everything, especially with real estate.

And it’s your mind that must be ready to play the game. If you invest with your heart, you will make decisions based on what you feel.  And soon . . . what you feel will get you into investments that you should never have considered.  Mixing business with emotions worn on your sleeve can mean you'll constantly be hurt. Sometimes it’s impossible to divorce the two – but it’s usually a formula for problems.

Think Outside the Box
One of the hardest things for new investors to do is to “Think Outside the Box.”  Many of us operate everyday the same way we did yesterday. Why? Because it’s the most comfortable way to operate.  But if you choose to play The Real Estate Mind Game, you will have to be as creative as possible and even invent new ways in your mind that you can accomplish the same task.  The key to remember is to learn something new everyday until you routinely expand your comfort zone.

First let’s focus on practicing the art of thinking outside of the box.  To begin to develop new habits, you must be willing to be more creative and operate outside the normal realm.  Perhaps you can start by stretching your comfort zone to do things you would not ordinarily do.

It’s a known fact that if you can repeat an activity for 18 or more consecutive days, you have a new habit in the making.  So try these few exercises (or create a few of your own) for the next 18 days to jumpstart a new level of operating:
  1. Go home a different way every day and see all the potential opportunities that exist around you
  2. Exercise an hour earlier in the morning and learn a different exercise that will work a different part of your body every other day
  3. Go to the grocery store and reverse the path you typically take through the store
  4. Mail your letters at a different post office than the one you normally use
  5. Generate multiple solutions as a way to resolve daily issues
  6. Learn one new idea or concept every day to increase your creativity
  7. Use your opposite hand to eat, drink, pick up mail or papers or books
Now, fast forward this mental process to real estate investing.

When we first began studying the markets and actively looking for investment opportunities, we looked at everything.  We really had not (yet) totally grasped the idea that (more often than not) deals are made, not born.  So we analyzed every deal that was presented to us.  At that time, it did two things for us:  (1) We got used to looking at multiple deals everyday and analyzing how we could make them work for us (extending our analysis comfort zone to process information quicker) and (2) we practiced using our minds (not our hearts) to create as many ways as we could to get into the deal.  Our deal acceptance ratio today is significantly higher than when we first began.

By the end of that first year in business, we were better at pricing and getting into deals.  It wasn’t until we knew we needed to generate cash and cash flow that we realized that we had not practiced exploring all the various exit strategies – whether we needed to employ them or not. This is even more important than the entry into a deal, because how you exit will fundamentally determine how you will enter a deal.  When we made this connection, an entirely new world of thinking opened up to us.  That’s when we knew our mind was expanding – and our emotions were being managed.

Decisions of the Head vs. Decisions of the Heart
The key to knowing and making decisions of the head is to know yourself and your tolerances.  Many of us don’t spend enough time to get to know ourselves. Believe it or not, not knowing yourself will lead to many a ‘heart’ decision because you will ultimately do what feels right to do, even if your head is telling you to go the other way.

Compare the following and see where you fit…

A head decision tells you that you are insane to think that if you don’t take action to change your life, that it will just change automatically.

A heart decision will tell you to stay where you are because you need benefits or a steady paycheck.  Consider this: we are all good leaders and followers at something depending upon our comfort level and what we choose to do with our talent.

A head decision will tell you that you need to change the way you are operating because you are getting nowhere faster today than you did yesterday.

A heart decision will ask you when do you have the time to introduce anything new into your already busy life.

A head decision will tell you to investigate all the possible avenues to maximize your opportunity.

A heart decision will compel you to ask what other people think about your opportunity – regardless of the fact that it’s ultimately your decision. (This can be a very dangerous place to be because chances are you’ve already made up your mind and anyone who invalidates your decision or thinking is somehow attacking you. (Your heart can be attacked but your mind can be challenged.)

A head decision will allow you to discern good information from bad – regardless of where it comes from – and determine what is in your best interest at this time.

A heart decision will cause you feel intimidated by people around you who may know more than you and operate at a higher level. The thing to remember is that we are all infants in some areas of our lives and adults in other areas . . . and where you are in your thought process doesn’t have any bearing on who you are.

Remember, people often criticize in others the very things that are lacking in them.  It’s not because you are worse off, but because they are no better off.  Don’t fall into that trap. Experience the exhilaration that comes from being around people who can take you to the next level.

A head decision will tell you the numbers surrounding a deal do not really produce your desired result.

A heart decision will tell you to go ahead with your deal and the numbers ‘will work themselves out.’

A head decision will tell you that “money pit” is written all over the deal.

A heart decision will tell you that you need to “up” your offer because this is really the deal of a lifetime and you do not want it to slip away.

A savvy investor will be able to marry both head and heart decisions to logical and sound next actions.  You can’t become a savvy investor if you read all the books in the world on investing and never do a single deal.  Lessons can’t be learned if you fail to extend yourself beyond your comfort zone.  Why?  Because what you do should always push the boundries of your comfort zone, which incidentally, is based on emotions.

Wisdom doesn’t come by osmosis but rather by studying and actively applying what you’ve learned everyday and surrounding yourself with people who are doing what you ultimately want to do.  This may occur by changing the people with whom you currently associate so that you are in an environment conducive to change and expansion.

Remember, you have to continually challenge yourself to win the ‘mind over what really matters’ game  – everyday.  Enjoy learning and wisdom will follow.
