Of the 11 insured, six have been evacuated by charter aircraft, with logistics handled by AHA's medical and assistance services partner, International SOS. One AHA client is under medical supervision in China and is to be evacuated as soon as medically feasible. The remains of the four victims that perished as a result of the accident are in the process of being repatriated to Malaysia.
The estimated cost of the special medical aircraft charter is approximately RM1 million (USD$300,000). The evacuation and repatriation costs of all those insured under AIG Assist will be completely covered by their policies. The average travel insurance policy cost for those evacuated was RM100 (US$27).
The Chief Executive Officer of AHA Malaysia, Mr. Brad Bennett said: "Our heartfelt condolences go out to those who have suffered as a result of this unfortunate event. With our service partner, International SOS, we will do our utmost to ensure that our clients are properly cared for and given the best possible support."
