Amphawa is a district of Samut Songkhram Province, located slightly inland at the northwestern tip of the Bay of Bangkok in Central Thailand. The Mae Klong River flows through the northern part of Amphawa. In the Ayutthaya period, the area of Amphawa was known as Khwaeng Bang Chang, a small agricultural and commercial community.
Talat Nam Yam Yen Amphawa is an afternoon floating market by the canal near Wat Amphawan Chetiyaram. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, between 12.00 noon and 8.00 pm, the Amphawa Canal is occupied by vendors who pack their boats with food and drinks, such as grilled fish, mussels, squids, prawns, scallops and satay as well as noodles, O-liang (iced black coffee), cakes and sweets, and etc.
With its romantic atmosphere, it is no surprise that Amphawa is a favourite weekend get-away for lovers.
There are also things for sale in the shops along the bank. Visitors can enjoy a cosy atmosphere and music broadcast by members of the local community, explore the market, enjoy a meal, and hire a boat to see fireflies after dusk.
