Dietary Tips

Secrets of My Current Success

Many of you who have seen me recently have asked me how come I have lost so much weight. The answer is careful selection of what to eat and what not to eat. Let's start with what not to eat. My doctor calls them the:

Five Deadly White Sins:

  • White Rice - Polished grains are some of the greatest causes of modern disease. Try eating pulut hitam instead.

  • White Flour - Try eating atta flour (from which chappatis are made), instead.

  • Sugar - Refined sugar is a sweet poison. Try consuming raw sugar like gula melaka or raw, unprocessed honey instead. Much of the goodness of raw, unprocessed honey comes from the enzymes present. Therefore, always consume raw, unprocessed honey as heat and pasteurisation deactivates the enzymes. Similarly, do not refrigerate honey as the cold also deactivates the enzymes. Also use a plastic or porcelain spoon with honey as heavy metals are leached from metal spoons. Raw unprocessed honey from Iran cost RM60 a kg but you can get similar raw, unprocessed honey from Vietnam at Giant supermarket at RM9.59 a kg (expiry June 30, 2006) or RM9.99 a kg (expiry June 30, 2007).

  • Salt - Causes hypertension.

  • Milk ~ Milk has fallen out of favour because of the antibiotics and growth hormones used in modern farming methods. If you can get milk that come from animals not given antibiotics and hormones, then, it's fine. By the same token, you should avoid beef and chicken. Lamb and mutton are generally okay as they are not fed with growth hormones. As the hormones have no effect on them, farmers do not waste money by injecting them with hormones.

  • Food rich in pectin enable toxins to be eliminated from our bodies. Pectin binds with the free radicals of these toxins and enable them to be eliminated by the liver and kidneys. Pectin-rich foods are:

  • Grapefruits

  • Lemons

  • Pomelos

  • Apples

  • Eat also dates, as they contain many complex sugars and are nutritious.
